I would like to acknowledge the traditional landowners being the Woppaburra people past, present, and emerging.
I currently live, work and perform this website Silverflamze from a location on the Darumbal people’s land. The Darumbal land district covers 10 000 kilometers squared. This is known as most of the coastal and Central Queensland, Australia.
The Darumbal Woppaburra people have a totem animal of the green tree frog and the plant of a water Lotus Lilly.

My Connection
I grew up witnessing discrimination, violations, and shocking atrocities of hatred toward the indigenous people of this country. Hearing firsthand from numerous people acts of terror and racism. I remember when I was 5 years old and thinking to myself when there was any way I could help make a better life for the people I loved like family, I would do so.
I understood their connection to the land. To me everything in the indigenous culture made sense. In a nation of peace, caring for the land for over 65 000 years before colonization. I empathized with their misery of being torn from their country.
Wherever I could and can represent the injustices I would act accordingly to argue the violations.
” Always was and always will be Aboriginal Land”
This quote from NAIDOC week reconciliations celebration resonates with how I feel when I walk and breathe in this land.
Remembering the terrible history that happened not so long ago and the atrocities that still happen today to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia.
I advocate for justice and human rights
Why do I feel so passionately about justice? Because I know that when one act of misuse of power is combined with hatred and disrespect to another person’s human rights. Is one act against the whole human race!
Injustice anywhere must be brought to the service of the United Nations. That is the reason for the unity of nations all enforcing human rights for the world to be a better place for everyone.
I will always step forward and advocate.
My Goal to End Poverty in Indigenous Communities
In Australia, there are communities in regions that were organized by the Churches that came with the colonization here.
They drove Aboriginal people to live away on the outskirts of the townships the colonies were forming. Driven out of their land by brutal force and murder.
These communities still today have large populations of indigenous people residing there. There is no work and often medical treatment is limited. The local shops are high priced for basic food supplies and again limited in quantity.
The battle against this poor standard of living for the people living in these communities is a disgrace to the government of Australia. The public need to acknowledge the sovereignty of this land and treat the first nation, people with respect, dignity and realize a treaty was never made.
My goal is to raise ongoing awareness of the injustices of the first nation people, plus create opportunities for the traditional owners to get back to the country. I do believe that the Indigenous know instinctively what it means to be connected to the land. They have their own ability to be self-sufficient in the country and traditionally do not need importing of goods like the Europeans. Everything was and can be found in their natural environment and they lived peacefully with Gondwana land for over 60 000 years.
Thanks for letting me share my feelings and I truly know there is a way for healing when acknowledgement is found first and accepting that generational trauma is a real and current in many of the traditional people lives.
Lets bring peace to their hearts and souls and to this amazing country Gondwana Land.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
All the best,
Erica Golding
Thank you for sharing your perspective on Acknowledgement to Country, past, present, and future. As a non-Indigenous person, I am constantly learning about how to show respect and recognition to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which I live, work, and visit. Your post has opened my eyes to the importance of not only acknowledging the past but also actively engaging in building a better future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Your insight and recommendations on how to incorporate Acknowledgement to Country into daily life are valuable and much appreciated.
Thank you so much Dave for your comments here, it is appreciated! I feel the same way, I am always looking for ways to acknowledge the perspective of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is in recognition and like you speak actively engaging ourselves, that we can build a better future for all concerned.
Much respect.
Kind regards Erica
Thanks for this Post Erica. It seems like you really do care about justice.
poverty is a big deal in todays world. I have some friends that are from California, and they told me that recently there has been an overflow of poverty and homelessness. I think that if enough people worked together they could end it all.
Thanks so much KD, yes you are right it is shocking the numbers of people living in poverty and it does not have to be that way. I myself have been homeless a few times in my life, once with my 2 year old son which was terrifying to say the least.
Yes I have visions to contribute to end poverty, God help me I have faith!
Thanks again.
Kind regards
Erica
