It may come as a surprise, but the home ultrasonic cleaner is an innovative invention dating back to the 1950s. Review on the ultrasonic jewellery cleaner VGT 2000.
Around 51 years ago, this nifty cleaning machine made a hit in the urban household. With more emphasis on hygiene and the need for cleaning items like seeing glasses, dentures, and jewellery.
The Ultrasonic jewellery cleaner VGT 2000 became a winner!
Product: Ultrasonic Jewellery Cleaner VGT -2000 Price: $49.95 Aud Cheapest Place to Buy: ebay Guarantee: 30 Day Return Guarantee My Rating: 8/10
Some interesting facts!
- Ultrasonic cleaning is based on the cavitation effect caused by high-frequency ultrasonic wave vibration signal in fluid.
- Microscopic bubbles are formed, in which they implode causing cavitation. This creates an intense rubbing act on the object being cleaned.
- The bubbles are small enough to penetrate microscopic crevices. Cleaning the item very well.
- Ultrasonic is extremely effective for removing grime and dirt.
- Saves a lot of tedious hand cleaning.
- Returns the item like new.
- Only water and a little detergent are needed.
- Cleans professionally
- No need for harsh chemical
- Says Hi when finished
What precautions are needed to use the Ultrasonic cleaner?
Actually for what seems a safe and effective cleaning method. There are some precautions needed to take care of while using the ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. To prevent life-threatening accidents be sure to read and follow the safety instructions.
A few ideas to be cautious about, because it is an electricity run machine.
Operate the Ultrasonic cleaner in a dry place that is free from obstacles.
Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
Do not operate the machine without fluid in the tank.
Do not touch the cleaner while it is operating.
- Do not put jewellery with soft stones such as opal, turquoise, pearls, emeralds, or costume jewellery.
- Do not place mobile phones in the cleaning machine.
- Do not place glass frames or art ware that is made of tortoiseshell, or abalone shell.
Overall, it would be highly beneficial to read the operating manual and take precautions seriously!
Can I only clean jewellery in the Ultrasonic machine?
Gold and Sterling silver jewellery can indeed be cleaned very nicely in the Ultrasonic cleaner.
Take a look at my example in the pictures opposite of an old dirty sterling silver cubic zircon pendant and chain, which have been cleaned only in 1 hour.
The gunk and grime are gone!
Restored back to bright gems sparkling, along with the sterling silver shining bright.
There is a multitude of items that can be safely cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner.
- Dentures
- Eye contact lenses
- Glasses and Timepieces that are waterproof.
- Personal items like shavers, combs, and brushes.
- Cutlery, knives, forks, spoons
- Nail clippers and scissors
Please note that when cleaning an item such as eyeglasses and eye contact lenses. It is not recommended to use the same ultrasonic cleaner as cleaning jewellery and other items!
Is there a difference between cheap and expensive ultrasonic cleaners?
In my research, I have found that a good Ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, does not have to be expensive to do the job effectively.
The ultrasonic cleaning machines can price range between $54 AUD up to $600 AUD.
In my jewellery cleaning experience. I realized that the home Ultrasonic jewellery cleaner VGT 2000 is more than capable of cleaning extremely well.
I guess the main difference is that the bigger more expensive cleaners have bigger tanks which fit more items in them. And perhaps the heat can be hotter with them and controlled more.
But for anyone looking for a home solution to cleaning items to a high standard, I would highly recommend the Ultrasonic VGT-2000 cleaner.
It really works a Gem
Cleaning jewellery has always been a chore for most people. And more often than not most people put cleaning their jewellery item tasks to the wayside.
Often leaving precious gifts of love, sitting in the draw.
Why not invest in an Ultrasonic jewellery cleaner VGT 2000 and go through all those cherished pieces tucked away somewhere hidden. Sparkle up the jewellery and be back wearing your most treasured pieces.

Yeah, I was blown away by that. I mean, I absolutely did not see that one coming. I mean, I literally heard about the invention yesterday, and it felt to me like something futuristic and very novel. Yet it turns out a version of that has been around for quite some time. But no harm no faul, it looks very affordable. 🙂
I really appreciate you for explaining how it all works. And I do agree with you spending time to list some of the precautions. Not enough people take these seriously. But they are there for a reason. Because if you don’t follow them, it can even end up deadly.
I find it interesting that we can’t clean soft stones with a technology like this. Do you happen to know if there are other similar ultra-sound-based products that can be used for soft stones? Or is that an inherent disadvantage for this technology?
Hello Matiss,
Thanks so much for your comment on my review! I appreciate the feedback!
Actually, no ultrasonic cleaners can not be used on anything that is porous basically. Soft stones are porous, meaning they are not as solid as the chemical compounds that make hard stones hard. The thing with ultrasonic cleaners is they inject gas into the water which creates the bubbles, which get into the crevices of every microscopic item. So hence a porous stone would implode and crack.
Ultraviolet light can certainly kill the bacteria around some items like soft stones, but it will not remove dirt that is built upon things like rings. They really need to be cleaned manually, or by a professional, that uses polishing hand dremels.
Kind regards
Erica 🙂
I came across your blog and read about Ultrasonic cleaner and suddenly I went back 19 years cause we had a Goldsmithing Workshop.
The things you have mentioned were really interesting cause almost 80% of the people don’t know that they should not use the same Ultrasonic Cleaner for Jewelry and Eyeglasses!
I found your content valuable and thanks for your effort.
Thanks so much for your comments on my article about Ultrasonic Cleaners.
I really appreciate the feedback. Especially coming from an experienced Goldsmith!
Kind regards
